I'm a remarried mom of four living in New England on our mini farm.
I specialize in barefoot farriery (in other words, an equine podiatrist)
with a keen interest/experience in on/off the track thoroughbred rehab.
Though most farriers are men, because of our intuition and skill with horse handling....more and more women are becoming predominant leaders in the traditional male roles around large animals. The hardest place for me to work was at the track, where men older and supposedly more "experienced" in hoof care all but shunned me and gave me no credit. At least until the horses became sound, returned to racing +/or became successful in another career....sound, and without shoes/nails. It makes me pay more attention to detail, knowing that they will be scrutinizing everything...but the success is extra sweet.
Go girls!!! We rock!
