Tradeswomen Archives

Two women electricians

Kinitha is an apprentice with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 48. She started in June of 2012, and talks about her journey and the challenges she faces.

These are short video interviews. They were conducted by the tradeswomen themselves talking with each other, using a flip camera. Here are two women, one who is just starting her career, and the other just completing it.  It's great to see the legacy of tradeswomen being carried on!

I enjoyed the work but it was a struggle, especially in the early years, when I was usually the ONLY woman on the job! When it was really difficult I would "keep my eyes on the prize", good pay, health benefits and a pension.

Christina Valentine has been an electrician with IBEW Local 48 for over 30 years.
